The world’s top cellphone maker Nokia is all set to launch a smaller version of N97 called N97 mini. Voted as a smaller mobile computer, the phone has a few changes to its predecessor N97.

Here’s looking into how the new Nokia N97 mini will look, features offered and expected pricing.

Nokia’s smaller version of N97 features a 3.2-inch touchscreen and full QWERTY keyboard built into its 14.2mm thin frame. It measures 113 x 52.5 x 14.2mm.

Nokia N97 also sports a 3.5-inch touchscreen with a QWERTY keyboard in a bigger frame measuring 117.2 x 55.3 x 15.9 mm. The slide-out QWERTY keyboard is a full 3-row.

Just like N97, mini too has a tilting touchscreen display and a customisable home screen that can be personalised with widgets. The phone is touted as a smaller mobile computer with stainless steel cues.

Nokia N97 mini will be Nokia’s first device to feature Lifecasting with Ovi — a new partnership with the world’s most popular social network, Facebook. Lifecasting enables users to update their Facebook status directly from the phone’s homescreen.

Lifecasting with Ovi will be available for Nokia N97 as well via Nokia Beta Labs.

N97 mini supports Ovi Store where users can add new applications, widgets, ringtones and other content to the phone. It also packs Ovi Maps and comes with integrated A-GPS and compass along with voice navigation for driving or walking.

N97 mini will pack 8GB of storage. The 8GB of on board memory can be expanded to 24GB with the addition of a 16GB microSD card. The mini will run the Symbian S60 OS like just its predecessor.

N97 offers a powerful 32GB memory with microSD for adding 16GB more (making it a staggering 48GB).

N97 mini features a 5 megapixel camera with dual LED flash and video light. There is a 4 digital zoom. The camera packs Carl Zeiss Tessar lens. Mini’s elder brother N97 too packs a 5 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics and dual LED flash.

N97 Mini supports up to 12 days standby time and up to 28 hours music playback. It supports video playback up to 210 minutes.

Connectivity options include WLAN IEEE 802.11b/g, microUSB connector, Hi-Speed USB 2.0, 3.5mm stereo headphone plug and TV-out support (PAL/NTSC). The phone has Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP stereo audio, enhanced data rates (EDR) GPS receiver with support for assisted GPS (A-GPS).

Nokia’s India Managing Director D Shivakumar said that the new version of N97 will be available by October in the Indian market. N97 mini is expected to be priced below Rs 30,000. Nokia N97 is currently available for Rs 31,000

So how is N97 mini different from its elder sibling N97? Though there are no drastic changes, N97 mini is marginally smaller than its predecessor. Another notable difference is in memory capacity. N97 mini comes with lesser memory capacity.
